theme creation does't need any tutorials, cause you just have to change pictures, no configurantion is needed, just browse through original res folder with your dingoo on hand, and you will see it's easy to making themes

These guys want to know how to do this stuff within a photo manipulation program, like GIMP or Photoshop.

Flaviobello, of course you "replace" images but it's much more complicated than that and you know it. Why else would it take you (and me) an entire week to create one theme? Because you can't just google the images and stick it in the dingoo and hope that it looks good. You have to find images, wallpapers, create USB screens, loading screens, charge screens that all work together - as a theme. The only reason I was able to complete mine was because I knew how to work in GIMP. The reason it took me so long is that I had no clue what the images within the dingoo were responsible for.

A full list of image names and their responsibilities within the dingoo would be an invaluable tool for beginners.

After doing my theme, I STILL don't know what they all do.

Where did you get the icons for your Megaman X Theme from? Did you rip them from a template or create them on your own?

For the most part I've messed with every image in the 'a', 'extra', and 'mainface' folder.  I have about 11 years of photoshop experience, so that's what I used to change all my images.  Here's my best attempt at the image layout:

Within the res directory are several folders and images.  I'm not sure what the bitmaps and pngs are for in the 'res' directory itself.  In the 'a', 'b', 'c', and 'd' directories are the corresponding themes on the dingoo interface to 1, 2, 3, and 4.  I've found that if you make a custom theme it doesn't seem to work anywhere but the 'a' directory.  Not sure why this is.  In the 'audio' directory lies all the images when the audio player is up.  It's pretty obvious by the file name and the images themselves what they represent.  In the 'eq' directory appears to be the images for the equalizer.  In the 'extra' directory is the image sequence for the battery when being charged via the wall outlet, not the pc.  'meidian.png' is the beginning of the sequence and it cycles through 'youdian_5.png' in order of the image number.  This sequence goes fairly quickly and you can't see a single image for very long.  Not sure what the other images in 'extra' are for.  In the 'filetype' directory are all the little images that show what kind of file it is, self explanitory.  'FM' would be the FM radio images.  'mainface' is the monster.  This directory houses all of the little icons as it would imply, on the main face.  While the 'a' directory has the images for the large icons that make up the main menu, the 'mainface' directory has all of the submenu icons for every single menu choice.  A lot of these images are exact copies of each other, just with different names.  This is where I spent the most time when I made FMA round 2.  Each submenu option on the dingo is represented by not 1, but 12 different images together.  Let's hope your 'mainface' folder is arranged alphabetically.  If not, I suggest doing so.  The first image is 3dgame.png.  This is the "main" icon for this submenu option, which is 3D games.  I say this because each of the files that is just "optionx.png" sits above the rest of the images in the field of view on the dingoo.  This image sits on top of all the other images in the 12 image sequence.  As long as you make it solid and not transparent, none of the other images within that sequence, or the backgorund, will be seen through it.   I did not experiment with '3dgame_1.png' or any of the other '_1' files.  I beleive they are blank, maybe some kind of extra layer of nothingness inbetween the main image and the animation to give the animation a little depth.  I left all of these alone in FMA round 2 and it looks fine.  Next is the actual animation sequance that sits behind the main image in the submenu option.  There are 10 files, labeled '3dgame_move1.png' through '3dgame_move10.png'.  These play in order from 1-10, then go back to 1 and repeats until you move off of that submenu option.  The default themes use a set of expanding white circles that become more transparent as they grow outward.  After close inspection of the default animation, you can actually witness the start of the sequance over and over and it looks really... jagged to me.  The good part about this folder is you don't have to hand make each of the 372 images.  Change all of the 'optionx.png' images such as '3dgame.png' and 'videosetup.png'.  Doing this will change the top icon sitting above the animation for each submenu option.  Even then you don't have to change all of these if you don't want.  A few of these main icons are copies of each other in the default theme, like the 'xsetup.png' files for each type of setup.  You can make one, then make copies of it and change the filenames.  Once you have designed a template for the 10 animation icons, you can save it once and make copies of it for each one of the submenu icons.  This is tedious file copying and renaming, and not fun at all.  The animation itself is very fast, even faster than the battery charging screen.  Next is the 'pedometer' directory, which I've yet to see on the dingoo.  The 'record' directory has the images for the recording interface.  'video' has the animation sequence when a video loads.  Labeled 'move1' through 'move12', I am not sure how fast it plays or how it plays in a sequence because I didn't change mine yet.  It's probably just like the wall outlet battery charging animation.

A few notes about the submenu icons as a whole: They can be any level of transparency, allowing you to see through them into the background they sit on.  If any part of the animation image is behind the main image and the main image is not transparent, you cannot see that part of the animation.  When a submenu option is not selected, it is only represented by it's main image, 'optionx.png'.  The animation only appears and moves when you have that submenu option selected.  These images are very small.  You're working under a microscope when creating these things, some of mine needed pixel by pixel modification to look right.  Be one with your photo editing program of choice.

The hardest part of all of this was creating an original idea for a submenu option and it's animation.  It took several attempts of trial and error to come up with something original and good looking on the dingoo itself.  I suggest you mess with 1 of the submenu options at a time, trying something new for an animation and main icon for each one.  Put them on the dingoo as you finish and check it out.  You can then see what looks good and what you need to improve on.  This part took me days to work out.  Once finished, copy the one you want over all the other animations and you're done.

That's pretty much it, hope that helps.  If I labeled anything wrong or you want to fill in the gaps on what some of the images do, please reply.

A pretty through list, I appreciate it.

One thing that I've discovered is that the a, b, c, and d folders also hold the USB and wallpaper screens and each can be changed so you can have 4 of each on the dingoo at a time. The buttons stay the same, but you can change the USB screens, wallpapers, and even how the menu backdrop appears in each of the different folders. Only the main buttons work in folder a.

AWESOME!  I am very glad someone posted their knowledge as to what files belonged to what.  I am about to get hard at work on creating a new theme for this little hunk of wonderfull plastic!  This is my first time on the site, so is there a specific area in the forum to post any newly created themes at, or do they just go into the main theming area?  I have have not ventured too far into the site yet, so I'm sure I will find out eventually, but just figured I would ask in here just in case.
