myvu + dingoo = fun!
Just bought a pair of http://imagehost.vendio.com/preview/ot/ottercreek/shades-middleImg_sta2.jpg to go with my dingoo. I'll let you all know how (and indeed if) they work together.
Just clicked em from Amazon for 80$ :)
Now I await the postman with baited breath.
Ouch! I was thinking the kid friendly version I spotted was around the $30 or $40 range. I still might try to track those down if this works, or I might actually be tempted to sink that much into it myself.
What will you do with them if they don't work for this!? It's not just $80 down the drain for you is it?
I had been seriously considering this even when they were pricier. It should provide you with what appears to be a 30 inch tv floating a few feet in front of you. I look forward to hearing if these work well for you, if text is legible in games and if it causes eyestrain. Also, I have to wear glasses and I wonder if these work well over glasses?
If they don't work with this, I'm sure they will work with my wireless mini cam which spends most of its life on my RC car or chopper, so it won't be a total waste. Thers no reason why the should not work, all the connections are right, and I bought the general one not the ipod specific type.
I'm pretty sure text will be a bit blocky as the screens are only 350 x 320 or something daft like that.
They've still not come yet .. lol I'm like a 8 year old waiting for xmas here :P
should be here tommorow afternoon!
I cannot wait, lol. bet it dont work.
But you just said there's no reason it shouldn't!
I'm still waiting anxiously to hear a report on this. I'll be sure to check back tomorrow.
"But you just said there's no reason it shouldn't!" I know, but If I convince myself that they won't work, Ill be super happy when they do, and not ultra sad if they do not. silly but works for me :)
they came! YEAH! They look pretty cool IRL.
unfortunatly they ship uncharged. :( So now I am waiting for them to charge up.
I'll post the results sometime in the next 10 hours or so, as I can't see it taking the entire battery life to charge.
BAAAAAH! SO. IMPATIENT. :P
it works :P 7 1/2 hours charge time according to the post time stamps :{P
seems to work ok on 16:9 and P system TV settings (P seems better than as I first thought N. dunno why always thought ntsc was meant to be better than pal ... ???). its a little blurry if you dont position it ok on your nose, but a little tweaking of the nose piece sorts that out. my wife however, who has two different sighted eyes, said it was a little uncomfortable over her glasses, and one screen was a bit blury for her without her glasses.
Its a glance down display, so I guess that there is a little getting used to involved in using this. If I can see about removing the screens and headfones and hot glueing em to some other shades body, that would be nice :P (although this is my xmas prezzy from the missus, so I dont want to muck with it ... yet..)
Text is readable in the games, and movie subtitles also.
here is a picture of the wirey set up :) and some crappy vids of the screens in the myvushades showing the dingoo in action.

also you look like king of the geeks wearing this and feel like an extra from star trek.
, but wtf! freaking great fun!
({edit} although my wife says I look cool and all VR like, so yay for me. It's brill having a geeky wife. :P)
I'm off to play mario on this strange floating screen. lol. this is pretty cool. Even better since my dingoo screen has just started to go wonky! Huzzah!
my main complaint is that its a bit wirey, but other than that, well nice. I'm quite tempted to go and buy an xbox360 or other home console to see how that works with it also.
oh yeah the sound is nice too :P
all in all pretty cool. I'm sure the none shades version would be better, as it has a higher resolution 640x480, and is more centered (so I can gather) but as I said previously, thats nothing a jam up (or down) the nose wont sort out, and I don't fancy shelling out 200 odd $'s yet.
:P YAY!
{edit} a few hours later.
I'm still pretty impressed.
A touch of eyestrain, but I guess if I turned the contrast down on the myvu I could play for longer, but, usualy a couple of hours on the dingoo itself gives me eyestrain anyhow.
This would be more great if my dingoo's batry memory was not shagged, as having to have the dingoo wired up as well is one to many wires. I'm off to bed to watch the new family guy star wars knock off and a dodgey TS of the men who stare at goats, so I;ll let you know in the morning how it does with video as well.
feel strangley disorientated without a big screen floating under my nose. bet abuse of this would give one killer tunnel vision. I'll tell you in a few days. hehehe
well, it would seem that they work better in the dark lying down than in the day!
the effect of the screen looks like about the same size as the 5ft x 5 ft painting we have about 6 1/2 foot away from the bed. Looks awesome facing the celing.
I watched the two films on it and it was great! My wife heard nothing, and I even stayed up late playing contra.
Caught a bit of a "you've played too much" headache, but all in all, I'd reccomend these to anyone who wants budget video eyewear.
I'm now saving up for the 640 x 480 version. :P

Woah... This is something I contemplated shortly after using my Dingoo for the first few times, but I was thinking about a similar device I remember seeing at Toys R Us which might be hard to track down now.
I'll be waiting eagerly to hear how this works out.
